About the choir:

Founded in 2003, Chamber Choir Murtosointu consists of some thirty singers, most of whom have extensive choral singing experience in leading choirs in Finland. The choir is based in Espoo, Finland and performs demanding a cappella – choral music aiming at the highest standards, as well as great choral masterpieces with various other choirs and orchestras.

The name of the choir is a play in words; Murtosointu translates as Arpeggio, a chord played or sung in sequence rather than simultaneously, and also as the “Chord of Murto”, reflecting its founding father and artistic director, dir.mus. Seppo Murto.

The choir performs in Finland several times a year with a wide range of programs and also travels abroad regularly. Murtosointu performed in the BBC Proms in 2008, and received a silver honorary mention in the Rimini International Choir Competition in 2013. In 2014, the choir joined forces with Dominante and the Radio Symphony Orchestra to perform the lately discovered prologue for opera Orango by Dmitri Shostakovits, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. In 2016 the choir performed in the San Paolo fuori le mura Cathedral as part of the celebrations of Holy Year Jubilee.

The choir celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2018 with a trip to Florence International Choir Festival in May, as well as an anniversary concert in Sellosali, Espoo on November 24th, 2018.
